40,000 doesn't seem like all that many to me. How much would a shutter replacement costs assuming we reached a point where it dies beyond the warranty period, any idea? So it balances out, as long as you shoot wise with the D50 and don't bracket your shots for lucky good shots :) Using the cheapest b&w bulk film, it would cost me over 600 dollars in film to hit 40,000 shots with my N80. How many times can you drop it or leave it in the hot sun, etc. Yeah, I'm past 10k and I've only had my camera since 2006. group/Nikon-D50/message/1551Ĭouldn't afford that many film prints. I was concerned and posted this same question at the Yahoo Nikon-D50 group: Unfortunately, I have never been able to "refind" that site. I read somewhere "official" in a comprehensive D50 review on a web site that the D50 and the D70 have the same shutter mechanism rated at 40K, the higher end models are rated at 100K. Of course, I've been spending most of my time working overtime to pay for my lens lust including the new 18-200 VR :-) I've had my D50 since last August and have yet to shoot 1000 pics. Estimates of 70-100,000 clicks sound much more realistic to - Raul, That guy that shoots pomeranians (with his camera, that is) is about as prolific a shutter-clicker as I've ever heard of, but he sure takes some wonderful pictures. In fact, I'd be inclined to insist on a warranty repair if it happened within the five-year warranty period. SoCalBob - I'd be very surprised (and disappointed) if my D50 died after only 10,000 shutter activations. You're scaring me Paul by knowing Jared's last name. I think he'd say, "If you're going to shoot cute little doggies in the snow, you need a man's camera like the D2Hs! It's got a shutter that wont quit!" nikon should totally hire that guy as their spokesman (a la jared fogle and subway). Whoa, that is the best story i ever heard. I was a little skeptical myself until I saw his pictures of models holding the poms. *snap*snap*snap* He literally killed a D70 in about a month and a half putting about 105k shots on it. He is number 5485 and I've had my camera since the 5th October 2005īTW there was this guy in the dpreview forums who sold pomeranians and he would shoot 1,000 to 2,000 shots per battery charge. I just looked at the last pictured I posted in flickr, my granfather.

at the rate i'm going i'll get to 70,000 shutters long before i get to 5-7 years.ħ0,000 and 100,000 doesnt seem like much at the rate I snap em. I remember reading on one of the forums on that consumer Nikon camera bodies have an average shutter life of 70,000 to 100,000 activations.Īdditionally there have been mentions that we can expect the CCD to accumulate dead pixels and white spots over a five to seven year span. I figure that i'll be beyond 10,000 within the first year and while it is still under warranty. I know that when it does finally konk out, it will be at the worst possible time. I've had mine about 2 months and am at about 2000. How many times have you clicked your shutter? In re this post, does anybody know the shutter life of the D50? I have seen estimates as low as 10,000 on the dpreview forums, but never backed up by anything.
